Message from the Executives

Office of the Chief Executive

Yesterday, we successfully delivered for the sixth and final FIFA World Cup 2026™ match hosted at Toronto Stadium. From managing crowds at key stations to supporting the movement of thousands of passionate fans of Portugal and Croatia, our team once again rose to the occasion.

There are many things to celebrate this week. I am incredibly proud of Team TTC.

Yesterday, we successfully delivered for the sixth and final FIFA World Cup 2026™ match hosted at Toronto Stadium. From managing crowds at key stations to supporting the movement of thousands of passionate fans of Portugal and Croatia, our team once again rose to the occasion.

Team TTC’s performance has been consistent across all six World Cup matches in Toronto. The planning has been detailed, the execution has been disciplined, and the co-ordination across the organization has been strong.

We added service where it was needed, supported key stations and corridors, handled major crowds, and kept the city moving through match days, FIFA Fan Fests, Canada Day events, Blue Jays games, concerts, and a very busy summer calendar. Thank you for your hard work and dedication.

Based on available data for the first four matches, the TTC experienced a 43-per-cent ridership increase across key tournament routes (Dufferin, Bathurst, Harbourfront, King and Ossington), with 230,000 more people than normal. On the 29/929 Dufferin routes, we maintained consistent headways of two-to-four minutes across match days. Our latest customer satisfaction surveys also demonstrate the quality of service we are delivering, with more than 92 per cent of customers reporting they were satisfied.

That is world-class service, delivered by our people, with the world watching.

This past Sunday, the TTC showed up in a big way at Toronto’s Pride Parade. I want to thank everyone who came out, walked, danced, cheered, organized, and supported one another. We stand with the 2SLGBTQIA+ community not just during Pride, but every day of the year.

June has been an incredible month of celebration, reflection and education, as we honoured both Pride Month and Indigenous Peoples Month. Our work does not end here. Let us continue to celebrate our diversity, remain committed to continuous learning, and work together to make sure everyone can be their authentic self. Because together as One TTC, there’s no stopping us.

I also want to thank everyone who worked over Canada Day to keep Toronto moving. Across the city, people relied on the TTC to get to Canada Day celebrations, fireworks, family gatherings, FIFA events, work, appointments, and home again. Many of you spent the day away from your own families so others could enjoy theirs. That service matters, and I am grateful for it. I hope everyone had a safe and enjoyable Canada Day.

As we continue to experience extreme heat across the city, I want to remind you to take your scheduled breaks, stay hydrated, protect yourself from the sun, and look out for one another. Safety begins with each of us taking care of ourselves and the people around us.

We have a busy summer ahead and still have 16 days remaining in the World Cup. We need to keep the same focus, discipline, and teamwork through to the final whistle. The standard we have set is strong. Now we need to sustain it.

As the tournament continues, what you see and experience on the ground will help strengthen our delivery. Please share your feedback directly with me.

This week has reminded us what it means to serve Canada’s largest city at a moment when Canada is in the spotlight. Team Canada has made history, and on July 4, tens of thousands of fans will be relying on us as Canada faces Morocco. They will be travelling to the FIFA Fan Fest™ , to watch parties, to neighbourhood gatherings, and across the city to be part of this moment.

Our role is clear. We are here to move people safely, reliably, and with pride.

Thank you for what you have delivered so far. Thank you for how you are showing up as One TTC for customers, for each other, for Toronto, and for Canada.

Let’s keep going.

With gratitude and resolve,

Mandeep S. Lali
