Message from the Executives

Office of the Chief Executive

Our commitment to employee safety following yesterday’s Wilson Station incident.

Yesterday (July 8), a TTC bus Operator from Wilson Division experienced a violent assault while on duty at Wilson Station. The Operator sustained non-life-threatening injuries, was transported to a hospital, and is now recovering at home. The suspect was arrested at the scene and charged with Assault with a Weapon.

The thoughts of the entire TTC are with the Operator and their family during this difficult time, and we wish them a full and quick recovery. I, along with TTC Senior Management, am committed to supporting the employee and their family throughout their recovery, including ensuring they have access to all available counselling, wellness, and recovery resources. TTC and ATU 113 leadership are firmly united in our commitment to ensuring all employees are safe at all times.

I want to thank everyone who provided support and care in the immediate aftermath of this incident. I also want to thank Toronto Police for their swift response in apprehending the suspect.

Let me be clear: violence against TTC employees is unacceptable. Every day, you serve the people of Toronto with professionalism and dedication, and you deserve to work in a safe environment. Your safety remains our paramount concern.

While there are no ongoing safety risks related to this incident, we are conducting a thorough review of all available evidence, including CCTV footage, and will continue to work closely with Toronto Police as their investigation progresses.

Incidents like this can affect all of us. If you need support, I encourage you to access the Employee and Family Assistance Program (EFAP) at 1-800-572-0039 or one.telushealth.com.

Thank you for supporting one another and for the professionalism, resilience, and care you demonstrate every day in service to Toronto.
