Message from the Executives
Office of the Chief Executive
This past weekend was my first time at Family Day, and it was something special. I had the chance to meet many of you and your families, and to see the pride people have in working here. It says a lot about who we are as an organization.
Thank you to everyone who organized the day, and to our Arrow Road team for hosting. Together, you delivered a welcoming, well-run and fun-filled day. You showed Team TTC at its best.
That same care shows up in the work we do every day.
For instance, Stations Supervisor Lisa King recently helped a customer, Daniel, who took the time to share his TTC experience. He spoke about her patience, her kindness, and how she made him feel respected as a person with disabilities. That’s what matters. It’s not just what we do; it’s how people experience us. Thank you, Lisa, for the work you do.
Those moments happen across the system every day. When you see them, share them. Recognition matters, and it helps set the standard for all of us.
Today is an important day for our city. Toronto is hosting the first FIFA World Cup 2026™ match on Canadian soil. The TTC will be central to how the city shows up to the world. We will see higher volumes and higher expectations. What matters now is execution.
This past weekend, teams delivered exactly that. During a single-day closure and one day of single-line service on Line 1 between Wilson and Lawrence West stations, crews completed critical infrastructure work, including a major concrete pour and the replacement of 25 rail pieces. It was complex work, done safely and on schedule, with strong co-ordination across teams. Thank you to everyone involved.
We’ve made real progress across the system on accessibility, cleanliness, wayfinding, and the overall customer experience. Bathurst Station is one example of the standard we’re building toward.
But plans only matter if we deliver on them. Each of us plays an important role.
Let's take ownership of our areas, support one another, and pay attention to the details. If you need help or see something others might not, speak up. Looking out for one another is part of how we succeed.
The failure yesterday on Line 1 at Union Station between 14:18-16:00 is a strong reminder that our effectiveness is judged by how we respond to issues as they arise. We must be dynamic in our approach and apply learnings from this incident going forward for the remainder of the World Cup, Fan Fest, and major events thereafter.
And above all else, keep safety first. There is no compromise.
Many of you now have your Team TTC pins. Wear them with pride. They represent what it means to show up as one team and do the job right.
This is a big moment for Toronto, and for the TTC. We are ready. The city is counting on us, and I know we will deliver.
With gratitude and resolve,
Mandeep S. Lali
