Message from the Executives
Office of the Chief Executive
At the TTC, safety is foundational. It is shaped not only by our infrastructure, systems, and employees, but by how customers experience our network and the standards we uphold every day.
Earlier this week, I joined Mayor Chow and Chair Myers to highlight key focus areas that will guide our safety approach through 2026. These priorities, which will also be presented at next week’s Board meeting, build on the TTC’s Community Safety, Security and Well-being Plan, and upon the progress that we as an organization have delivered and continue to deliver.
Together, they form a deliberate, strategic and data-driven framework to strengthen safety across our system, ensuring that resources are focused where they will have the greatest impact. This includes enhancements to system design and infrastructure, increased visible presence to deter unsafe behaviour, and the responsible use of emerging technologies to support awareness and response, including through the recent introduction of body-worn cameras for select station staff.
These actions are grounded in a clear objective: to ensure our employees feel protected and supported in their workplaces, and that our customers feel safe, confident, and reassured at every stage of their journey. Building on this work, we will continue to introduce new tools and approaches, including the upcoming Subway Assistance Messenger pilot at Eglinton and Kennedy stations, that will equip us to respond quickly, visibly, and effectively to safety concerns across the network.
With this foundation in place, as we look ahead to the World Cup, there is a deep sense of pride in the role we will play as One TTC. Across the TTC, teams are already coming together with BBQs and local events, creating space to connect and celebrate the essential role our teams play in moving the world through Toronto. While extensive and careful planning has brought us to this point, our collective strength, commitment, and co-ordinated effort will ultimately define our success, bringing these plans to life and ensuring seamless execution each day.
That same sense of shared purpose is deeply connected to how we support one another. As we wrap up Asian Heritage Month, I would like to extend my sincere thanks to all employees who shared their stories and experiences and who participated in events and learning opportunities throughout the month. Your contributions, reflected in this year’s theme of Rooted and Rising, continue to strengthen our organization.
In the weeks ahead, we will mark both Pride Month and Indigenous Peoples Month, important opportunities to reaffirm our commitment to respect and equity for all. These observances are not separate from our work; they are integral to it. Delivering a great transit system goes hand in hand with fostering a culture of safety, inclusion, and accountability.
By strengthening our culture and prioritizing safety in every interaction, we build the trust that keeps our system moving and ensure we are equipped to deliver the high standard of service our customers expect and deserve.
Sustaining this progress depends on transparency and open communication. I encourage you to share your thoughts and feedback as we continue this work together. Please feel free to reach out to me directly.
Thank you for your continued dedication to keeping our system safe, welcoming, and world-class.
With gratitude and resolve,
Mandeep S. Lali
