Message from the Executives

Office of the Chief Executive

I want to acknowledge the efforts of employees across the TTC who prepared and responded to the severe weather that impacted the city on Wednesday evening.

Throughout this week, I was reminded of the dedication, resilience, and teamwork that define the TTC and the many ways we build connections with our customers, our communities, and each other.

I want to acknowledge the efforts of employees across the TTC who prepared and responded to the severe weather that impacted the city on Wednesday evening. Behind the scenes and on the frontlines, employees came together to support customers, protect infrastructure, and ensure our system remained resilient through rapidly changing and challenging conditions.

Our ability to respond and recover from Wednesday’s storm is a testament to the planning, preparedness, and investment in our people and assets.

Thank you to our crews and every employee who stepped up when it mattered most. Your collaboration, expertise, and unwavering commitment helped keep our city moving safely and demonstrated the strength of One TTC.

Last Saturday, TTC came together to celebrate Line 5 Eglinton at Cedarvale Station, which welcomed a strong turnout of customers, employees, community partners, and transit enthusiasts.

It was wonderful to see employees from across the organization engaging with the community and celebrating the ways Line 5 has transformed the corridor and customers’ commutes.

I was also encouraged to see our staff engaging with customers and community members, answering questions and listening to ideas on how we can improve our service. Listening to our customers is essential to ensuring we continue to meet their needs, and their feedback plays a critical role in helping us continuously improve the service we deliver.

I would like to thank all the employees who volunteered their time, as well as our Special Events team for delivering such a successful event.

Building strong connections with our customers means continually looking for ways to improve their experience. Fare capping is one way we are doing that.

On September 1, we successfully launched fare capping across the TTC, an exciting milestone as we continue to look for ways to make the system more affordable and accessible to everyone. Fare capping ensures our customers always receive the best value for their travel, and each trip they take delivers even more value. Thank you to everyone who played a role in bringing this program to life.

Looking ahead, our 2027 Annual Network Plan explores opportunities to enhance reliability, efficiency and accessibility through route and service improvements. The plan focuses on the needs of women, shift workers, and lower-income customers and is being shaped through public consultation and an ongoing survey.

Together, these initiatives reflect a shared goal of continuous improvement: making the TTC more affordable, easier to use, and more responsive to customer needs.

It was my pleasure to attend this week’s Every Child Matters Flag Raising Ceremony, where I was particularly moved by the Elder’s remarks about the role each of us can play in advancing understanding and inclusion. His words were a powerful reminder of the value of learning and approaching one another with openness and respect. I appreciated the opportunity to connect with staff and learn from their experiences. This ceremony was an important reminder that reconciliation requires us to continue to listen, learn, and take meaningful action.

This week, I would also like to highlight three employees from our Track and Structure Department who went above and beyond for a customer. After a wedding ring fell through a ventilation grate near Yonge Street, Steve Chanos, Mike Trovato, and Danny Kosic helped retrieve it.

Their actions highlight so many of our employees who make a difference every day through their professionalism and willingness to help others. Thank you, Steve, Mike, and Danny for representing the very best of the TTC.

Reflecting on recent weeks, one theme remains constant: we achieve our best results when we connect and work together. This is why I encourage you to share your feedback with me. Whether it’s an idea for improvement, a lesson learned, or a story about a colleague who went the extra mile, I want to hear from you.

Thank you for your continued dedication to our customers and colleagues. By working as One TTC, we can continue building on our successes and delivering better outcomes for our customers, our employees, and the city we serve.

With gratitude and resolve,

Mandeep  S. Lali
